Thread   Detailed OCD info from owner of Ego Matrix Mark as Read | Alert | Add BookMark  Original Discussion
In this post I will explain everything I know about the OCD quest in detail, so everyone will be able to try it for themselves. I am doing this because I enjoy helping other people out, and I hate when people withhold information. I have a 115% Zenrei Ego Matrix, so you can rely on this information.

Objective

The Oni Communications Device, when assembled, can ultimately summon an encounter at the Continuum Wrinkle in Xipe Totec, which includes the Zenrei Guardian Tempest. Many uber items can be aquired only from this epic encounter. To build the OCD, we must use the skills of each race, and collect rare looted items, which drop only from Onis.

Getting Started

Like any other device, the recipe for the OCD must be aquired. However, getting the recipe is a process unique to the OCD. To to get the recipe for the OCD, a Slagged (Broken) OCD device must be analyzed. Upon **** 3 or 4 new recipes (number depending on race) will appear in the manufacture terminal. These recipes are for the parts that must be built first, so the final OCD can be assembled. Each race will recieve different schematic upon the analyze, which means that in order to ultimately construct the Communications Device, at least one member of each race must analyze the Slagged. Naturally, the lvl 9 broken device will require lvl 9 device build to analyze. Also, this device is non-tradable and non-storable.

It is not very hard to get the Slagged OCD, as compared to some of the other rare drops required. This device will drop of all Onis from CL 33 to CL 50. Of course, the higher the level the Oni, the more likely that it will drop the device. The Slagged OCD is not unique, so you can pick up more than one. An explorer is needed to mine the fields on the other side of the Intzalan Line in Xipe Totec. Onis will spawn in the fields, along with high level manes. Once the Slagged OCD is retrieved, read it's description. You will see that the only recongizable word in it is Yasuragi. Yasurai is a lost ship, but there is a replica of it, which serves as a station on Swooping Eagle planet. The Slagged OCD can only be analyzed at Yasuragi on SE planet.

Once analyzed, you will recieve a 3 or 4 schematics.

Terrans will recieve schematics for:
[Comm Relay Conduit (Can only be built by Terrans)
     - Requires lvl 8 Bald Eagle engine & 1 vendor part
Colloidial Magnetic Transmitter (Can be built by all races)
     - Requires 1 Reclaimed Manes Essence, 1 Oni BioFlux Phermone, 1 Daeva Emitter, and 1 Wraith Neurotropics
Slagged OCD (useless)
     - Requires 1 lvl 2 refined Zirconium

Progens will recieve schematics for:
Comm Shielding Array (Can only be built by Progens)
     - Requires lvl 8 Sumter shield & 1 vendor part
Colloidial Magnetic Transmitter (Can be built by all races)
     - Requires 1 Reclaimed Manes Essence, 1 Oni BioFlux Phermone, 1 Daeva Emitter, and 1 Wraith Neurotropics
Slagged OCD (useless)
     - Requires 1 lvl 2 refined Zirconium

Jenquai will recieve schematics for:
Comm Power Source (Can only be built by Jenquai)
     - Requires lvl 8 Veil reactor & 1 vendor part
Colloidial Magnetic Transmitter (Can be built by all races)
     - Requires 1 Reclaimed Manes Essence, 1 Oni BioFlux Phermone, 1 Daeva Emitter, and 1 Wraith Neurotropics
Slagged OCD (useless)
     - Requires 1 lvl 2 refined Zirconium
Oni Communications Device (Can only be built by Jenquai)
     - Requires Comm Relay Conduit, Comm Shielding Array, Comm Power Source, and Colloidial Magnetic Transmitter

The Veil, Sumter, and Bald Eagle can easily be bought on market, if noone can make them.

Finding the rare Drops

Most of the time spent on this quest will be the search for the rare Oni drops. It is not uncommon to search all day and find nothing, so one must be patient in order to succeed. The same method of finding the Slagged OCD will be used here. This time however, each part will drop only from a specific type of Onis. There are 6 types of Oni in total:

Oni
     - Combat level 25
     - Drops nothing, and is basically a decoration.

Oni Eblis (Eblis means "Principle Spirit")
     - Combat level 28
     - Drops nothing, however killing these may help spawn larger Oni.

Oni Shaitan
     - Combat level 33
     - Drops only the Slagged OCD, and very rarely.

Oni Fiend
     - Combat level 36
     - Drops the Oni BioFlux Phermone very rarely.
     - Drops the Slagged OCD occasionally.
     - Spawns in fields at (68,60,0) and (87,83,0)

Oni Daeva
     - Combat level 41
     - Drops the Daeva Emitter very rarely.
     - Drops the Slagged OCD occasionally.
     - Spawns in fields at (68,60,0) and (87,83,0)

Oni Wraith
     - Combat level 45 & 50
     - Drops the Wraith Neurotropics very rarely.
     - Drops the Slagged OCD often.
     - Spawns in fields at (51,-87,0) and (48,54,0)

Mining fields must be done to spawn Oni in their locations. On average, one Oni will spawn every 5 minutes per location. The chances of getting an Oni to drop one of the rare parts (not the Slagged OCD) is estimated to be between 1/300 and 1/500. Therefore, one could be looking at 40+ hours of camping before seeing anything. Patience is the key to collecting the drops. Camp one spot for a while, especially if the field around it is mined. Sometimes the Oni spawn is delayed, and other people will leave. Be there to collect the kills when the Onis finally start to spawn. Once all the parts are found, the OCD can be assembled.

The Epic Encounter

Bring the OCD to the Continuum Wrinkle near the moon Tetl in Xipe Totec. You will need a lvl 9 device tech player to target the Wrinkle and activate the device. Upon activation wait about 20 seconds for a giant rip in space to from. Shortly thereafter the giant blue transparent Zenrei Tempest Guardian will appear, along with a few manes around lvl 40. Concentrate all fire on the lvl 66 guardian, and loot as quickly

Due to the maximum word limit, the last part of my post was truncated. Here is the full last section:

Upon activation wait about 20 seconds for a giant rip in space to from. Shortly thereafter the giant blue transparent Zenrei Tempest Guardian will appear, along with a few manes around lvl 40. I hope this information has cleared all questions up. If you have any more, I will be glad to answer here. The entire quest start to finish takes 1-2 weeks with hard work. Good luck!

/me bows to Thebo.

Great post.

Even with this knowledge, it will still be simply impossible for most of the (non organized) players to get an OCD (as intended, I assume). But, at least to me, the knowledge about this 'quest' is motivation itself. ;-)

One further question.

Do you have any information about the frequency you spawn the Guardian?

Nice post.
Everything seems to be correct. I can confirm the info since I have put 6 OCDs together already and almost ready with the sevens one.
I have few thing to add and correct:
There is no way 1 person can do it. Zenrei tempest spawns with about 4-5 manes lvl 44+ and about 3-5 onis lvl 55-58 I think. Those lvl 55-58 onis heal the tempest. One person will get ripped aparted there if not ksed. But yes 1 group can do it. I usually take 2 groups to be sure.
Make sure you use impact or energy ammo there because plasma does not work well.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I am not quite sure exactly what you mean by this, Thomahawk. The guardian will spawn every time you activate the OCD on the Continuum Wrinkle.

I have seen two TEs who were able to kite the guardian on galileo by themselves, but that was long ago. Perhaps now with the "smarter" mobs you are correct, Webmaster. Thanks for the correction.

Also, I had forgotten to add in that plasma will not work well. Stick to explosive, impact, and energy for the guardian. When working 2 groups, it is a good idea to have one long range group hit the guardian while another shorter range group takes care of those extra Manes and Onis. Thanks Webmaster!

A couple more small observations from my JE alt...

"The Slagged OCD can only be analyzed at Yasuragi on SE planet."

This is not completely true. You can analyze it anywhere, you just have to go to Yasuragi first, to turn it manufacturable. Also, no matter what quality it is when you get it, as soon as you land, it turns to 100%. I landed with a 95% and a 113%, came out with two 100%. Still haven't gotten the analyze tho.

Also, may I ask a silly question... Why does a lvl 50 Tempest spawn every now and then? It has no hulk to loot or anything... Is it just eye candy?

Oh ok cool, thanks for the info. I had always thought of Yasuragi as a nice quiet place for analyzing, but I suppose if faction was bad there you might want to try another place.

So far as I can tell, the lvl 50 Tempest is just eye candy, and has no meaning.

Thanks Deusxi!

This is a great post for new players like myself, but I would also like some information about the Red Dragon Base. My guild is also a small, new guild so I can't get any of this information from them.
Thanks again for this great post.

... The guardian will spawn every time you activate the OCD on the Continuum Wrinkle.

- No time gap inbetween? As soon as it goes down, you can summon another?

- How many Guardians can you summon at the same time? One I assume, but did someone try to summon more than one at once? (irrespective of the fact, if such would be clever)

- How behave the minions of the Guardian?
-- Can you summon a new Guardian without killing all of his fellows?, and thereby increase their numbers?
-- Do they vanish, when the guardian got killed?

I would think you could summon as many guardians as you had OCDs
This brings up an interesting idea. I remember one time the DEVs said that people were using the OCD incorrectly. Perhaps one OCD could be used to summon the guardian, and another to talk to it? This is something I will work towards trying. Thanks for your insightful questions Thomahawk! :)

As far as I know, the minions all vanish when the guardian is killed, but I have never done it with less than two groups, so I never had time to pay too much attention to what happens to the minions. If anyone has this information, please share it. :)

My pleasure, always on duty. ;)

... I remember one time the DEVs said that people were using the OCD incorrectly.

I am familiar to this (rumor) as well, so some further questions/suggestions.

- Where do you know from, that the OCD is to be used on exactly this location? I assume, from the item's description, but could you post a (hard)copy of the text?
- Are the any other wrinkles, that have been tried within the galaxy (too easy, I know)
- Have you used the OCD 'on' the Guardian?
- A Guardian protects something - what?
- Has somebody tried to pass/use/... the wrinkle, as long as the Guardian is around (alive)? (Most probabely not implemented yet)
- Ever tried to use mutliple OCDs at once (simultaneously) at the wrinkle? - spawning an even bigger MOB could be ... 'fun'

More great questions and thoughts. :) Perhaps I can build upon them a little.

The description on the assembled OCD reads: "This device was built from the recovered designs of the students of Master Zeh Len. The original design was an attempt to communicate with that master after her unfortunate mental capture by unknown agents. It ultimately failed."

Nowhere have I found that the OCD must be used on the Continuum Wrinkle. If anyone knows where such infomation can be confirmed, please share.

There are no other wrinkles in the galaxy to my knowledge.

I have not used an OCD on the guardian, but I am currently working on doing so. I am also working on using two OCDs on the wrinkle at once.

The 200% Oni Communications Device
This is another thing I am working on. I have collected various bits and pieces of information from other players concerning a different encounter when a 200% OCD is used. It is rumored that upon building the 200% OCD, one must meditate on Yasuragi for one hour, in order to spawn an even greater encounter. I have not been able to confirm any of this though, so I must try it myself. Unfortunately, the last OCD I made used 3 200% parts and one 190% part and, much to my suprise, turned out 159%. Once the Wizards of Doom gains control of the Zenrei ID Matrix, which adds to device build level, we will be able to construct higher quality OCDs.

ooo - some nice ideas Thomahawk :)
I will add the x2 device activation and activation on the Guardian to my list of "to do's"

If you have an extra OCD lying about Thebo - try using it on the Not-Guardian. I've killed him twice now, and he hasn't dropped anything. :/
Need to get a couple of my guild mates &/or alts up to build devices 7, before my guild can continue w/this quest.

I have near max Jenq faction, and I failed x2 at Yasuragi and x2 at Paren. I succeed the 5th one... at Mars. lol.

I plan on using the 1st or 2nd on the Guardian in IO.

also maybe: Legarto, Mondara and Mazzaroth rifts (inside & at entrance), the Tomb & the rifts where hyperion is spawned in VT, the permanent WH on Endriago Planet.

Just due to the description on the device, I doubt that it's useful outside of Xipe.

I love the multi-step, balance and "hidden" nature of this quest.
Balance- You have to have explorers to get the oni, freespacers and Thorvald to spawn so you can get the parts instead of just getting a huge group togeather and tanking it.
Hidden, in that you don't talk to any NPC, you just have to stumble upon it (w/the hint on the S-OCD). I really hope there are more quests like this or will be in the future. Having the Uber loot drop is sweet, but at least for me, not that important as the discovery/completion.

Yep. One use only. But you keep the formulas so all you need to do to get a 2nd is collect the parts again, not analyze another Slagged OCD.

I have max JE faction, but only high, not max, JW faction. By great good luck, my first slagged OCD analyzed at Yasuragi.

Getting the components to build out at high levels takes a lot of practice, which is quite expensive. I lost a couple of Sumpters that way (still have to buy the things -- very costly at high quality). [Oh well, back to hunting Bios until I can build them myself.]
